Italians Simone Bolelli and Andrea Vavassori are riding the home support as they chase their biggest team title at the Internazionali BNL d’Italia, where they advanced to the semi-finals on Thursday.

The duo ousted seventh seeds Wesley Koolhof and Nikola Mektic 6-4, 6-2 to continue their run at the Foro Italico, where they are yet to drop a set this tournament. In front of a packed Pietrangeli court, Bolelli and Vavassori remained in control by stepping in on returns, winning 59 per cent of their second-serve return points, according to Infosys ATP Stats.

The Australian Open finalists, who won the ATP 250 in Buenos Aires, next meet Marcelo Arevalo and Mate Pavic in the last four.

Top seeds Marcel Granollers and Horacio Zeballos also advanced with a 6-2, 7-6(4) victory against Monte-Carlo champions Sander Gille and Joran Vliegen. The Spanish-Argentine team, which won Rome in 2020, will clash against Alexander Bublik and Ben Shelton, both Top 20 singles players in the PIF ATP Rankings, in the semi-finals.
